Your Questions, Answered

  • As an independent photographer, I bring something larger studios simply can't replicate — full personal attention on every session. I started my business later in life after a career in science, so while I may be considered a "young business," I bring the maturity and perspective of someone who has worked at a professional level, combined with the enthusiasm and energy of someone who genuinely loves what they do. I put everything into getting the most out of each session for my clients. My lower overheads also mean my premium service is very competitively priced.

Ultimately, it's not about me or my gear — it's about making sure your images reflect who you are, what you want to say, and are ready to make an impact. Every shoot is different, and there are many factors hard to predict that may change the schedule during the day. Flexibility and calmness are what set me apart.

  • My scientific background trained me to think on two tracks at once: what is the result we're aiming for, and what could get in the way? When I receive an enquiry, I'm already considering both the outcome — the look, the setup complexity, and your timeframe — and the practical constraints, such as available space, natural light, staff scheduling, and logistics on the day. For commercial projects, I take this further: how and where will the images be used? Website, social media, print, or billboards all have different requirements. I also think about the number of people involved, whether we need to hire a studio or talent, and contingency plans for outdoor shoots. Above all, I want to understand you and your brand deeply — so my creative approach aligns with your personality and goals. For me, getting all of this right matters more than simply sending a quote.

  • I prefer to photograph one person at a time. Once someone is done, they call the next person in — this way nobody feels watched by their colleagues or distracted by office chatter. I avoid large queues near the shooting area, and wherever possible I'll suggest a separate waiting space. For smaller, close-knit teams, having a friendly atmosphere nearby can actually help — laughter is one of the best tools for natural expressions. I concentrate entirely on the individual in front of me, taking care of different angles and expressions, and I never rush. A short conversation, a bit of reassurance, and getting into poses quickly all help people relax. The goal is that you never feel like just another face in a queue.

  • My approach is editorial and gender-neutral — I believe we are all equal, and I photograph everyone that way. My poses tend to be contemporary and inclusive rather than following traditional gendered conventions. I work with both soft and hard light depending on what is most flattering for each individual, because the same lighting setup can look very different from one person to the next. I don't believe in cookie-cutter lighting — it has to be personalised. My editing style is natural and distinctive; professional retouching means you shouldn't be able to see where I've retouched. Skin texture and character are preserved — just without the distractions. Clients often describe my images as authentic, polished, and distinctive. I also love experimenting with new techniques, colours, and environments, and I stay connected to what's happening in the creative industry through art and design. I am always open to new perspectives.

  • Absolutely worth it. Many of my clients have used a single headshot session across LinkedIn, their website, speaking engagements, media features, and social media posts — the value from one small investment can be significant. A professional image presents you in a way a mobile phone simply cannot match, and in today's digital world, how you appear online matters more than ever. As for the process — I promise to keep it brief, relaxed, and even fun. We'll chat, we might laugh, and I'll guide you every step of the way. I understand not everyone loves being in front of a camera, and that's completely okay — you're in good hands.
